Flower Kennel and Homestead
Visiting The Flower Homestead makes you step into the real authentic off-grid Alaskan lifestyle. Our tours are a snapshot of our year round life with the Flower Sled dogs and we are grateful to share this with our guests.
The Homestead is tucked away in the Talkeetna Boreal forest, just south of Talkeetna. You will be shown around in and around our off-grid dry cabin (no utility connections) and our vegetable garden and will see first hand what it takes to run all the systems needing to live in Alaska year round. We pump our own water, provide for out own electricity and heat, and grow, gather, bake, and ferment most of our own food. We try to live a simple sustainable life as much as possible.
Guests will of course also meet and learn about the sled dogs. Each dog has a different characters and requires specific care and training to excel in their work and life. They are a rowdy bunch, but big snuggle bugs too. There will be plenty of opportunity to cuddle with the dogs and take pictures.
We are a small locally owned operation and our tours are casual and personal.
