Bear Viewing
Alaska's wild landscapes provide healthy habitat for bears, with more bears living in Alaska than any other state. The easiest (and safest) way to view bears in the wild is on a guided tour by small plane or boat that lands you and your expert guides in remote areas where bears congregate - usually near rivers or tidal flats where bears gather to feed on fish. Human behavior in these bear viewing areas is strictly controlled, with the goal of making you part of the scenery and letting the bears go about their business undisturbed.
Many tour options are available to view Alaska’s brown bears and black bears in the Inside Passage, Southcentral, Interior, and Southwest regions of Alaska. Some of the most popular bear viewing tours depart from communities such as Anchorage, Kodiak, Homer, and Juneau, visiting top bear viewing destinations like Brooks Falls at Katmai National Park, Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge, Lake Clark National Park, Denali National Park, and Pack Creek Bear Viewing Area.
