The Wild West
The stunning province of Alberta is located in Western Canada, east of British Columbia and west of Saskatchewan. The Northwest Territories lie north of Alberta, while Montana is our American neighbor to the south.
It is one of the most diverse and scenic provinces in all of Canada, with the gorgeous Rocky Mountains nestled along the western border and the Great Plains occupying the eastern side. You will also find desert badlands and coniferous forests, along with over 245 rivers and 600 lakes.

Alberta is renowned worldwide for its natural beauty and is home to six UNESCO designated World Heritage Sites: The Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks, Dinosaur Provincial Park, the Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, Waterton Glacier International Peace Park, Wood Buffalo National Park, and Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park. The most popular areas to visit in Alberta are Banff National Park, Jasper National Park and Waterton Lakes National Park. All these amazing sites attract tourists all over the world for skiing, fishing, hiking, and camping.

Abundant Wildlife
Alberta’s magnificent landscapes provide homes for many different species of animals. Buffalo roam all over various farms and parks, while other major herbivores are found throughout the province including moose, deer, elk, bighorn sheep, and mountain goats.
But it’s perhaps the carnivores that steal the show out this way! Alberta is home to wolves, grizzly bears, black bears, and mountain lions! There are also coyotes, foxes, bobcats, and wolverines. For animal and nature lovers, the opportunities to spot incredible wildlife are endless.
Under Alberta’s many fresh lakes, rivers and streams you will find a variety of fish species including pike, walleye, trout, and sturgeon.

Cities and People
Alberta has a population of over four million, most of which is concentrated in the major cities of Edmonton and Calgary. Edmonton is the provincial capital, located almost right in the middle of the province. Further south, Calgary is the largest city in terms of size and population. Both cities are recognized for their welcoming hospitality and variety of activities for both residents and tourists alike.
West Edmonton Mall is the biggest mall in the entire country, and the city is also home to many festivals, restaurants and sporting events year-round.
Calgary loves to show off its reputation as “Cowtown” with the Calgary Stampede, a major yearly rodeo and festival held every July. The city also has a thriving arts and culinary scene that is second to none.
The Indigenous culture is a big part of the past and present with the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit populations found throughout the province. English is the predominant language, but because of our multicultural roots you will also hear many other languages spoken such as French, Dutch and Ukrainian.
