Explore Fairbanks
During Aurora Season, August 21 to April 21, Fairbanks is one of the best places on Earth to see the beautiful aurora borealis. Fairbanks' location directly under the "Auroral Oval"–a ring-shaped region where aurora activity is concentrated–combined with a good balance of clear nights, occurrence frequency and activity allows for excellent aurora viewing opportunities. Low precipitation and distance from coastal areas also consistently contribute to clear skies and optimum viewing. Take a guided tour and chase the aurora in myriad direction close to town. Drive to a nearby vantage point and wait for the northern lights to appear. Or look for them from a heated "aurorium" cabin, yurt, dome or lodge; on an overnight dog sled adventure; by snow cat tour or on a flight above the Arctic Circle.
