Alaska Helicopter Tours: Experience the exhilaration!
Sponsored by Alaska Helicopter Tours
Planning a trip to Alaska is no small feat, after all it is the largest state in the U.S. and would take months to properly see all of it. While there are many jaw-dropping, awe-worthy experiences in all five regions of the state, there’s one that every visitor and local should make sure to have: by helicopter.
Alaska Helicopter Tours, which has its primary base of operations out of Alaska Glacier Lodge in the Knik River Valley, offers a variety of year-round heli-adventure tours. Starting in May of 2024, AHT will now be offering tours out of the stunning coastal town of Homer, further expanding operations into Southcentral Alaska.
Summertime tours have a wide range of experiences in the Knik River Valley:
Glacier Landings
- Choose from a one or two-hour tour, both include a breathtaking landing on Knik Glacier. The two-hour Grand Knik Tour option provides two additional landings for a total of three remote landings on one tour.
Glacier Dogsledding
- Glaciers and puppies? How could it get any better! Fly across the top of Cataract Glacier while operating your own team of dogs, from the kennel of six-time Iditarod champion Dallas Seavey.
Adventure Tours
- Alpine drop-offs for guided hiking, epic glacier paddleboarding and packrafting on glacier melt pools, glacier ice climbing, mountain biking and so much more. Heli-adventure tours will be truly unforgettable (and make for a pretty amazing Instagram post).
Weddings
- Tying the knot on the glacier, now that’s something you’ll be able to brag about for the rest of your lives. From two person elopements to a 50-person wedding, we will make your special day that much more special.
- Chinitna Bay Bear Viewing
- Embark on an unforgettable adventure with our exclusive private helicopter bear viewing tour to Bear Mountain Lodge from Homer, Alaska. Our bear viewing tour will take you via helicopter from Homer to Bear Mountain Lodge in Chinitna Bay, at the southern end of Lake Clark National Park. In route to Chinitna Bay your pilot will point out multiple active volcanoes including Mt. Augustine and Mt. Iliamna, possibly even Mt. Redoubt in the distance, as well as other points of interests along the way.
- Helicopter Volcano Expedition
- Embark on a thrilling aerial adventure from Homer, Alaska, to behold the magnificent beauty of Augustine Volcano. Our 4-hour helicopter tour offers a unique perspective of this iconic natural wonder, providing awe-inspiring views that will leave you breathless.
- Grand Glaciers and Waterfalls
- Take in the stunning views over Kachemak Bay as you depart by helicopter from Homer to get an up-close view of the glaciers, waterfalls, and majestic mountains just across the bay on the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula, unreachable by road. This offers the chance to land on a high alpine glacier overlooking Kachemak Bay and walk on the ancient glacier ice while taking views of the surrounding Kenai Mountains.
- Glacier View Flightseeing
- This is a 30-minute, shortened version of the Grand Glaciers and Waterfalls tour to see Homer from the air and take in views of nearby glaciers, waterfalls and the Kenai mountains.
While it may be a little colder, a winter helicopter tour is nothing short of magic when you see the Knik River Valley transformed into a winter wonderland. AHT offers both glacier landing tours and weddings and elopements year-round, with the addition of some uniquely-winter adventures:
- Take a short winter hike near Knik Glacier and safely explore the frozen icebergs and towering ice caves.
- All abilities welcome! Get acquainted with the sport of ice climbing while your guide instructs you on how to use professional gear while climbing up an ice formation.
- Be transported by helicopter into the heart of the Knik River Valley and Chugach Mountains where you and your guide will explore the snowy landscape via snowshoe.
Heli Ice Skating
- Experience ice skating like never before on a frozen glacial melt pool or frozen lake surrounded by frozen icebergs.
