Shows & Performances

One of Alaska’s most unique shows is undoubtedly the northern lights (September through mid-April). However, you can enjoy another type of nightlife by exploring Alaska's brimming arts and culture scene. Offerings at theater stages across the state range from quirky comedies to Shakespeare to improv to Broadway musicals. Many performances tell the stories of Alaska’s history and heritage, including gold rush days and Alaska Native, Russian, and even Norwegian song and dance performances.

The cities and towns are overflowing with live music. You can catch an opera or symphony performance and one of our world-class performing arts centers or relax by the fire while listing to a local musician. Dance under the midnight sun at one of the many outdoor music festivals that happen throughout the summer and enjoy multi-day jazz and bluegrass festivals in the winter. Alaskans love to dance, so grab your partner and head out to a pub or club for live music or some ever-popular square dancing. If you're a fan of the bar scene, some of Alaska's most iconic and colorful establishments offer lively performances.
