Are you looking for an adventure this year? Maybe you should join us for a week of exploring in Alaska this summer?!
We still have a few spots open on our group trip to Alaska July 21-26! During our six day journey we’ll view wildlife and sea glaciers on a cruise of Prince William Sound, trek across Matanuska Glacier (and I’m hoping for a polar plunge), and get some views of Denali! Now that we have a few group trips under our belt, I can solidly say that it is one of the most fun ways to travel. There is nothing more exciting than discovering a new place with kind, welcoming, and like-minded people. Because of that, we CAN’T WAIT to get a new crew together to meet up in Alaska. We’d be overjoyed to explore one of our favorite places on earth with you. If you’re interested or have any questions about it, don’t hesitate to ask! For more general info about the trip, you can find it in the link in our bio!

In an area known for rain, the weather forecasted for the weekend looked surprisingly clear, so I jump on a moreso rare opportunity to hike the local volcano, Mt. Edgecumbe. The morning began with a thirty minute boat ride to the neighboring Kruzof Island. Engulfed by morning fog, we eerily approached our destination, unseen before us. We landed on the beach and started the hike. As the sun burned the fog away, Mt. Edgecumbe came into focus. Vibrant green foliage and red rock sharply contrasted each other as we climbed higher, and in the distance, mountains towered above a still clouded Sitka. Unobstructed views met us at the top and as we circumnavigated the rim of Mt. Edgecumbe. Between meeting some awesome people, helping Kyra (a warm husky) find some snow, enjoying the sun while it’s here, and a post hike swim in the Pacific, the trip concluded with a bonus of seeing whales in the wild for the first time. It was fascinating to see these giant animals breach in the distance and then swim within 30ft of the boat.

Mushing is a popular winter activity in Alaska as it is home to the world famous Iditarod race (that ended a couple days ago!) For our tour, we were lucky to have Bill Cotter as our guide - he raced for 50 years, and won the Yukon Quest and placed third at the ’95 Iditarod. Not only that, he’s won 4 humanitarian awards for the care and treatment of his dogs. Meeting him and his family was one of the highlights of our trip, and was well worth the long drive!
And how cute is Emmett (first dog) the lead dog of the pack!

Every February/March, Fairbanks holds an ice art championship and lemme tell you, these artists are phenomenal! I love getting the ability to go multiple times throughout the event and see all of the different sculptures that are being created. Categories include single block sculptures to larger than life ones. Made from just ice, the detail that goes into some of these pieces is astounding. They even have a “game room” set up which consists of mini golf, air hockey, sledding, etc. and these too are all made from ice! I highly recommend this great attraction if you’re ever in the area during this time!

I am so excited to share that Royal Caribbean has offered myself and 6 of my coworkers the opportunity to take part in a simulation cruise to Alaska!
My husband and I will be meeting my friends and fellow agents in Seattle next week then heading to Ketchikan, Alaska on the Ovation of the Seas!
The simulation cruise is an optional step that cruise lines can take to assure the CDC that they are ready and willing to adhere to new social distancing and covid guidelines to provide their clients an amazing experience at sea while keeping them and their staff safe.
I can’t wait to share this experience with you and I am so grateful to Royal Caribbean and Fairy Tale Concierge for providing me with this amazing adventure!

"Nalukataq is a celebration of the whale that happens every summer in Utqiagvik. Whaling crews hand out shares of traditional foods to the community, people jump on the blanket toss (mapkuq) to throw candy to the crowd, and the community gathers for dancing (aġġi) at night.
Originally mapkuq was used to track whales during fall whaling. When they jumped, the jumper would look out towards the sea.
I was there to document the event for new to the region teachers as part of their cultural immersion, as well as catch up with old friends."

Somewhere back in my mind I always wanted to capture something like that iconic scene from the movie 'Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind'. I know this one is not close, but I was thinking about it all the time while taking this picture. Our Alaska trip was a dream come true and we loved every moment of it.
I haven't been posting much in recent times.. We both got super busy specially after a long trip. Now trying to get back to life. Being in a full time job + editing + posting + work on collaboration + event.. I know it's a lot to take in. But I forget all of my hurdles when I see something very good come out of it. This may be in the form of good photography or client's smile when they see the pictures or some life-changing experience. The good thing is we all are growing together. Let's keep each other in our prayers for good spirit, good health, and good adventure. What else do we need more in this lifetime, right?

Yesterday, the ANHC Dance Group performed for Elders at a Cook Inlet Housing Authority property. The performance took place outdoors and followed all social distancing requirements. 🤩
We are proud to share this is the first of many events planned to safely bring joy and culture to our precious Elders right to their doorsteps. ❤️ Thank you to Cook Inlet Housing Authority, The CIRI Foundation, and the Administration for Native American (ANA) ILEAD program for making this possible!

I was privileged to meet Tommy Joseph while on an evening walk near Sitka the other day. Tommy has been carving totem poles in the traditions of the SEAK natives for 48 years. He will have a total of 4-5 months in this commissioned piece by the time he’s done. This piece will find its home among the spruce trees of the Sitka National Historic Park . #sitka #alaska #alaskanartist #totempole #alaskanatives

The cool thing about photography to me is the mystery of the unknown. You never know what you’re gonna see or who you’re gonna meet. This week in Alaska I had the opportunity to learn from a killer Alaskan photographer who also happens to be a super good dude. takebreaks_ thank you for your time and sharing some of your secrets with me. You all should go check his work out. It’s incredible.

All I can think about when I look at this rn is a river of coffee meeting a river of cream lol just imagine 😍😅😂

Welcome to Celebration 2022. We at Sealaska Heritage Institute are proud to share Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian cultures with you! Our wise elders and clan leaders conceived of Celebration 40 years ago as a way to pass on our culture to young people. Today, it’s one of the largest events in the state, drawing thousands of people. #Cele2022

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day! In honor of today’s holiday, Igiugig Students participated in NYO events and played traditional Alutiiq games. The students became the teachers today, and it was a truly magical thing. ✨

Every two years for four days in June about 2,000 Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian dancers flood the streets of downtown Juneau. Celebration is one of Alaska's largest cultural events. The Sealaska Heritage Institute started this elaborate gathering in 1982 as a way to preserve the Native traditions of song, dance, oratory, and clan protocol. Celebration draws about 5,000 people to Juneau. Last year's event was postponed because of the global pandemic.
It is still being determined if Celebration will take place this June. If so, will you be there?
