Greatland Adventures
There's no place quite like Alaska's Interior region, especially during the winter months, when temperatures drop and the landscape is shrouded in fluffy snow. This is the authentic Alaska, however, so from hub city Fairbanks, Greatland Adventures guides will embark upon a number of frosty adventures that allow for a complete immersion into winter wonders of the Interior.
Start with a city tour of the Golden Heart City on a three-hour sightseeing tour of Fairbanks, beginning with pick up at your hotel. Explore downtown Fairbanks’ unique character and architecture, then visit the exhibits at Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center. Your local driver-guide will then journey just outside of town to see Santa Claus House at North Pole, and make a stop at a section of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline that stretches 800 miles from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez.
Or, make your way out of town toward the Chena Valley for a day of geothermal soaking and Interior Alaska character. At Chena Hot Springs Resort you’ll have time to soak in the pools (outdoor pool guests must be 18+, guests under 18 are welcome to use the expansive indoor facilities), visit the Ice Museum (under construction in 2023/24 with limited access), and enjoy a leisurely lunch. An additional visit for dogsledding or a visit with a small reindeer herd can be arranged on the trip out to the resort.
Then, for those aurora borealis enthusiasts, choose from our Fairbanks Northern Lights Tour or the Arctic Circle Northern Lights Tour and witness the dancing color in Alaska's northeastern sky. The driving tour travels up the Dalton Highway to the community of Coldfoot, crossing the Yukon River and into the wild, raw wilderness of the Arctic. Cross the Arctic Circle and arrive in Coldfoot Camp for lunch or dinner before traveling back to Fairbanks, watching for aurora all the way.
Embark on our popular Fairbanks Northern Lights Tour to view and photograph the aurora borealis in and around the greater Fairbanks area. We pride ourselves on offering intimate, small-group trip experiences with an experienced local guide team, and work hard to provide optimum viewing locations in the hills and remote areas outside downtown Fairbanks.
