Backcountry & Hiking: Visitor Comments

robert l. kelly

We had a great time...what a great feeling standing in the midst of the Alaska Range and the Big Delta area.  The only thing I really missed was seeing the Aurora Borealis, of course, in July it would be hard to see.  But, we saw everything else we had desired to see.  Thank You!!   Robert

My Alaskan experience was a seventeen day trip where the first week was spent exploring DenaliNational Park with my fiancée, Lori. We slept in a tent at WonderLake campground. And also spent a couple of nights in Savage River and RileyCreek. We traveled the park road, hiked fields of tundra while taking pictures and shooting some great video. Our days were rainy and mosquitoes were swarming; but the mountain views, the far-stretched fields, and the wildlife encounters made those things seem so insignificant. Out of the twelve national parks I have visited Denali is the most undisturbed land I have seen. I loved it so much.  I want to return........

The next part of the trip was in the Kenai Peninsula. We visited Coopers Landing and we rode horses for over twenty miles through some very remote wilderness.  We then took a remarkable boat ride through the KenaiFjordsNational Park traveling nearly 150 miles of the Prince William Sound. Here, we saw sea otters, eagles, porpoises, fin whales and puffins. Wildlife in the Kenai is also unbelievable. As a back drop to all this wildlife activity, we saw glaciers. The sound and echo of glaciers cracking was followed by them crashing down into the ocean right in front of us.

Alaska was a dream comes true. Spending this time in Alaska with the love of my life was an experience that I will hold on to forever. Thank You ALASKA you truly are amazing.
