Binoculars and spotting scopes
offer an excellent way to view wildlife from a safe distance. For a wonderful
wildlife viewing experience that keeps both your party and the animals out of
danger, follow these guidelines:
- If an animal shows signs of distress, you're too close.
- Be as unobtrusive as possible. Loud noises can cause the
animal to panic and behave unpredictably.
- "Buzzing" animals from a plane or helicopter is illegal.
It can cause animals to burn excess energy they need to survive
and care for their young.
If you come upon an injured or orphaned animal:
- Leave them alone! Animals may look lost but their mother may
be nearby and dangerous.
- Do not disturb or touch small animals or eggs, as the parents
may abandon their young as a result.
- An injured animal should be reported to authorities;
never attempt to 'help!'
