Alaska’s highways are modern and well-maintained. In most areas, traveler
resources are plentiful. Driving in Alaska offers incredible scenery and
wildlife viewing, and is a great way to get out and explore. Car and RV rentals
are available in most communities.
Some of Alaska’s most popular destinations are primarily accessible by highway,
including Denali National Park (you can also get there by train) and Denali State Park, Wrangell-St. Elias National
Park and Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, to name a few.
Many of Alaska’s highways are recognized by the National Scenic Byways program.
These roads are remarkable for their scenic, natural, historical and cultural
qualities. Alaska has two All-American Roads, the highest level of federal
recognition available. The first is the Seward Highway, which stretches from
Anchorage to Seward in Southcentral Alaska.

Experience the beauty of Alaska while driving
The second is the entire route of
the Alaska Marine Highway. It is the only marine route in the National Scenic
Byways program. The Glenn Highway, which runs from Anchorage to Glennallen,
also in Southcentral Alaska, is a National Scenic Byway.

your journey north.
