150 years since the Purchase of Alaska
The modern state of Alaska first took shape nearly 150 years ago, when the United States bought Alaska from Russia in 1867. We’re planning the 150th anniversary celebration in 2017, but don't wait until then. We celebrate Alaska Day, which marks the transfer of ownership, every October 18th—come this year and see why Alaska was worth every penny.
