Southcentral Community: Anchorage

Anchorage is the ultimate base camp for Alaska adventure. Nestled between the Chugach National Forest and shores of Cook Inlet, beneath the Chugach Mountains, Anchorage is a unique urban environment set in the heart of great Alaska wilderness.

Alive with arts and culture, this modern metropolis flourishes year-round with world-class enterainment, sporting events, countless festivals and a jamming local music scene. Modern towers silhouette the skyline above downtown streets lined with galleries, specialty shops and outdoor displays that showcase the unique works of Alaska's finest artists. Colorful flowers spill from hundreds of baskets on downtown lampposts, blooming feverishly during the long day lit hours of summer.

Anchorage was named an All-America City in 2002. It is a place people are proud to call home and a place people love to share.

Travel in any direction and find an abundance of wilderness experiences - watchable wildlife, glaciers, mountains, northern lights, recreation and adventure. Winter visitors are thrilled to find spectacular opportunities for outdoor fun. Mild winter climate, snow-covered mountains and forests, an award-winning trail system, and miles of untracked snow create the ideal conditions for winter activities such as alpine and Nordic skiing, snowboarding, dog sledding, ice fishing, snowshoeing and more.

No matter what the season, a journey to Anchorage, Alaska, will be unique and memorable. Its central location, surprisingly mild climate and excellent transportation system make it a natural base camp for any Alaska experience. Discover what makes Anchorage wild!

All were spectacular. Just remember that the weather is fickle and may modify your plans. The food is great and you will have a...
