Many of Alaska’s wilderness lodges and resorts are oriented around sportfishing
and the outdoors. Staff at these lodges and resorts typically arrange for all
of their guests’ guided activities, including fresh or saltwater fishing,
hiking, whale-watching, kayaking, glacier viewing, or even photography or
cultural tours. While these are some of the most common activities, some lodges
even offer gourmet cooking instruction, golf, bear viewing or spa treatments.
The food at these lodges and resorts is top-notch, and prepared by a resident
chef who can turn the day’s catch into a gourmet meal. If you’d rather take
your catch home, lodges and resorts will fillet, flash-freeze and ship your
