What could be more Alaskan than a cabin? The earliest miners made theirs cozy by
tacking fur pelts on the walls and hanging yellowing newspapers with stories
from homes left thousands of miles behind. Today, cabins offer the nostalgia of
the past and the comforts of the 21st century.
Rental cabins range from rustic to completely modern. Typically, rustic-style
cabins feature clean, comfortable accommodations – though many of these cabins
don’t have running water. Those without water are usually close to a source of
water and have an outdoor restroom facility nearby.

Modern-style cabins look like their rustic forebears, but that’s where the
similarities end. Full facilities, running water, bathrooms, saunas and gourmet
kitchens are available in many, giving guests a beautiful, authentic
environment in which to relax without any sacrifices.
Finally, many Alaskan lodging businesses have dozens of cabins for rent. These
businesses usually have a common building with a front desk and restaurant and
many small cabins with similar features as a queen-size hotel room. The cabins
are usually clustered together on a scenic property, perhaps on the bank of a
river. This type of rental cabin offers the convenience of staying at a hotel
and the character of historic lodging.
