Juneau, Sitka, Wrangell, Ketchikan

Day 1 Juneau
Arrive in Juneau via plane, cruise ship or Alaska Marine Highway System ferry. Get the family together for a trip on Mount Roberts Tramway. Once you’ve reached the summit of Mount Roberts, take in the sweeping view of the rainforest below and the surrounding mountains. Back in town, explore the Alaska State Museum’s collection of artifacts from Alaska Natives and Russian settlers. Overnight in Juneau.

Day 2 Juneau – Sitka
Hop on an Alaska Marine Highway ferry and spend a couple hours onboard as you journey southeast to Sitka. Upon arrival, head to the Alaska Raptor Center for an up close and personal look at bald eagles and other rescued birds. Watch the birds in action inside the flight-training center, an enclosed area where rehabilitating birds regain the ability to fly. Overnight in Sitka.

Day 3 Sitka – Wrangell
Spend the day taking in the sights on your trip through the Inside Passage while the children take advantage of the playroom and arcade or listen to the U.S. Forest Service interpreter explain the wildlife and environment of the Tongass National Forest. (This journey can also be done overnight.)

Day 4 Wrangell
Get your land legs back in Wrangell by exploring Petroglyph Beach State Historic Park and the carvings left by local Alaska Natives. Take a walk to Chief Shakes Island – connected to downtown via a footbridge – and explore a 1940s replica of a Tlingit long house erected on the site in the 1800s. Several impressive totem poles are also found on the island. Want to try and spot some wildlife? At the Anan Bear and Wildlife Observatory, bears come to feed on the largest pink salmon run in the Inside Passage. Overnight in Wrangell.

Day 5 Wrangell – Ketchikan
Hop back onboard the ferry and head to Ketchikan. You’ve spent plenty of time on the water and the ground, now its time to see Alaska by air! You and your family will soar high above the trees attached to a zipline by a harness. The canopy tours will give you a thrilling bird’s eye view of the area’s geography that will be a blast for you and the kids. Overnight in Ketchikan and prepare to fly home via the local airport, which is just a quick hour-and-a-half flight from Seattle.
