About Salcha

The town of about 1,000 residents is located at the mouth of the Salcha River, 40 miles south of Fairbanks on the Richardson Highway. The residences that make up Salcha are dispersed along the highway, so it would be easy to miss this little hamlet as you drive by, but fishing enthusiasts will definitely want to stop.

Things to do

The Salcha River is known for Arctic grayling, sheefish, trout and northern pike as well as king and chum salmon. Access to Salcha River State Recreation Site, an excellent location from which to base a fishing expedition, is at Mile 323 of the Richardson Highway. Winter activities include snowmobiling on the frozen river and cross-country skiing.
