Fishing in the Far North is primarily accessible by air, although riverboats can occasionally be rented at villages along the waterways. Lakes in the Brooks Range are the most popular; beware if you are traveling to one of these, they may not be ice free until as late as July.

Anaktuvuk River

Located in the Brooks Range in Gates of the Arctic National Park near Anaktuvuk Pass. At its best in September.

Kobuk River

Located in Gates of the Arctic National Park and flows to Kotzebue. Boats may be chartered from residents in villages along the river. At its best June 1 – September 15, Northern Pike available year round.

Noatak River

Fly in river flows through Gates of the Arctic National Park and Noatak National Preserve to Kotzebue. Approximate season July 15 through September 30.

Round Lake

Fly in lake located on the North Slope of the Brooks Range.
