The majority of the lakes and rivers in the region can be reached by air or boat, though some can be as easy as getting in your car and driving there.

Alaska Department of Fish & Game regional sport fish run times

Good Fishing Locations:
  • Charley River - Accessible by plane, it is rated excellent to good for grayling but you can also catch king, chum and coho salmon.
  • Porcupine River - Accessible by air or boat from Fort Yukon. Fish that are commonly caught are northern pike and arctic grayling.
  • Rainbow Lake - Accessible by plane it is located across from Tanana River. Rated for excellent rainbow trout fishing.
  • Wien Lake - Fly in lake located 60 miles south of the Yukon River. Rated for good northern pike fishing.
Managed Areas:
  • Arctic-Yukon-Kuskokwim
