Went to Alaska in July for a 2 week cruise tour through Celebrity Tours. Was a fantastic time with awesome weather. This was our second trip to Alaska. The best part of the trip was Talkeetna. Went on the Grand Denali air tour with a glacier landing with K2. Was simply awesome. 70 degrees and clear skies. The sky cleared up just before our trip. After seeing McKinley from the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge (best view we had of the mountain) we landed and had a snow ball fight on the mountain in July! Simply fantastic views.
Also simply loved the Glacier Point Wilderness Safari (Highly recommend) in Skagway. Canoeing up to the Davidson Glacier was simply breathtaking. Got within about 100 yards of the face. Best tour on the ship we had.
I highly recommend Alaska to anyone who loves nature. The glaciers, the wildlife, and the people are wonderful. Can't wait to go back again and again.
I took a 7 day cruise/6 days on land package with some friends last week of August/first week of September. There are not enough adjectives in the English language to describe it! If, no when, I come back, it will be srtictly on land. I'm a RN, and I'd like to come and do a few week stint in the clinic in Denali. The mountains are AWESOME! I went on a salmon fishing trip--caught a 28" salmon, went on a river rafting trip, saw some brown bears on a nature trip in Skagway, but the coolest thing I did was to go on a helicopter trip onto one of the glaciers. Talkeetna is a great little town, actually all of our stops were great. The people are very friendly and helpful, but the landscape is the best thing.
